Subject: Join educators, students and parents to call for a safe reopening of schools in September
Sent on behalf of Sue Wurtele, OCUFA Vice-president:
Parents and educators are organizing a provincial day of action next week on Wednesday, July 29 at 12pm to call for a safe and well-funded reopening of schools in September.
OCUFA will join educators, parents, and students across the province to urge the government to prioritize the safety of students and workers at all Ontario’s educational institutions. As workers, parents, and educators, many of us have acutely felt the pressures of juggling our work and care responsibilities during the pandemic. We also share the concerns of our colleagues in the secondary system regarding the Ford government’s reckless and poorly-designed plans for reopening schools and campuses in September.
We invite you to participate in the day of action on July 29 to amplify the voices of educators and students and to urge the government to prioritize health and safety.
You can find more information about the event and the list of demands here.
To participate in the day of action your faculty association can:
· Visit your MPP’s office (you can register here)
· Post a message of solidarity on social media tagging OCUFA and your MPP and using the hashtags #SafeSeptember #fullyfundedsafeschool
· Take a selfie with the attached graphic (below) and post it on social media
· Tell your friends and colleagues about the day of action and encourage them to participate
Attached to this email you’ll find a graphic and sample tweets you can use to join the day of action over social media. We are working on translating these to French and will share the translated version with you early next week.
Please feel free to contact Mina or Hind if you had any questions or needed any further information or support.
